Children's Place helps fulfill education goals
Letter to the Editor
Cape Cod Times, July 19, 2007

Kudos to the Cape Cod Times for recommending that early childhood education from birth to kindergarten could be "our country's next greatest investment" (editorial, July 12, 2007.)
The Cape is fortunate to have many dedicated individuals and high-quality programs already making that investment. Cape Cod Children's Place works to meet the needs of children birth to age 5 and their families on the Lower and Outer Cape through a range of services, from free childbirth education to free postpartum support, free play groups and early literacy activities in eight towns, free consultations for families in crisis. We also provide parent education and child-care subsidies.

Your editorial recognizes that programs for children from birth to age 5 are an economic and social issue, as well as an education issue. As working families continue to leave the Cape, driven out by high housing costs and shortage of child care, let us choose to support the programs that keep our work force here, keep our families strong, and invest in our youngest children.

This Saturday offers an opportunity to support Cape Cod Children's Place with our annual Lunchbox Auction fundraiser at Blue Heron Gallery in Wellfleet, 5-7:30 p.m.
