| Sen. O'Leary a longtime champion for education Inquirer and Mirror, Letter to the Editor by Bethany Oliver, March 19, 2009 To the Editor: The Cape & Islands’ champion for education, State Senator Robert O’Leary, was recently appointed Co-Chair of the Joint Committee on Education. As the Executive Director of Small Friends on Nantucket - a high-quality early education program that received one of Massachusetts’ Universal Pre-Kindergarten Classroom Quality grants - I am thrilled that this committed advocate will be playing a major role statewide. Senator O’Leary has long been a supporter of high-quality early education and helped pass the Universal Pre-Kindergarten legislation last year. He recognizes that quality early learning experiences are critical to children’s healthy development. These experiences improve school readiness and increase academic achievement, while providing major savings for taxpayers in reduced education, health care and social service costs. All children deserve to benefit from high-quality early learning experiences and Senator O’Leary is the right champion to help achieve this goal. I look forward to working with him on behalf of children here on Nantucket and across Massachusetts. BETHANY OLIVER Executive Director Small Friends on Nantuck |
